Early Life
The youngest of four brothers, Roald Engeberth Garvning Amundsen, was born July 16, 1872 in the Norway capital of Christiania, present day Oslo. He was the fourth son of Jens Engeberth Amundsen, a wealthy shipping business tycoon.
